There are people of great moral standards who would never hurt a fly nor speak to a demon, and then there are people who live in a broken shell of a world where demon recruiting is the only way to survive.

Your character is now part of the second category. They've found themselves in a post-apocalyptic world where working with demons is accepted as a fact of life. They could stay forever in the tiny town where they woke up... or they could try to find out more about their situation.

But that means entering the dangerous outside world, and that means demons.

Where is my character?
Your character has woken up in a modern-day-like Earth that has clearly seen some better days. Demons are rampant and it's dangerous to leave the few inhabited areas. Buildings are broken down and all form of government has collapsed. Something definitely has happened here. Something big.

Why are they here?
That's a good question. The answer is probably related to why there have been demons appearing for the last few years: suffice it to say that they're here, they're not the first to come here, and nobody knows how to send them back.

How will they survive?
Upon arriving, they'll receive a COMP, a portable computer with access to the Demon Summoning Program. The Demon Summoning Program allows a person to negotiate with and form contracts with demons, who can then be summoned as allies to fight alongside them.

It may sound dubious, but the fact of the matter is that the farther they get from the town they arrive in, the more they'll need to gain a strong group of demons to survive.

Are powers kept?
Characters will find themselves unable to use any of their powers when they first arrive. After adjusting to this world, however, their powers gradually return to them.

Every AC passed will result in some regain of powers, on a case-by-case basis. A basic fire spell will come back quickly, while gamebreaking abilities will take a long time to come back if they ever return.

Do we have a network?
The COMP also provides many other benefits such as a network with voice and video fuctions, a clock, and an automatic mapping system.

Should we have an IC Inbox?
Yes you should, although it isn't a requirement.

Can I bring my Gundam/pet/insert strange item here?
No other animals, Pokemon, or demons come with your character. Sorry. No head start on your party.

As far as items go, they can only bring what they would have on their person plus anything they expressly need to survive (medicine for example).

So, weapons?
If they have a weapon they can carry, they can keep it, though it loses special powers and becomes a regular sword.

If they don't have any weapons, along with an initial gift of macca and a COMP, STEVEN will provide them with a choice of basic weapons - sword, gun, staff, etc.

Like in SMT games, it doesn't matter exactly what your background was before you picked up the weapon, you'll figure out how to use it without shooting yourself in the foot before you enter an actual battle.

Can my character die?
Yes. However, they can also be revived, through powerful magic like Recarm or Samrecarm.

Nobody is under obligation to revive your character, however. They get one "free" revival from an NPC and that's it. If they die again, and nobody is available or wants to bring them back, they stay dead.

Can I app into this? You said it's a private game.
It is. The application includes a place to mention who in the game invited you to join here. As long as you check out with somebody, that should be cool.

Can we app OCs?
Yes.

How many characters can I app?
At the moment, as many as you want. This may be given to change.

What about duplicates of a character?
Yes, you can have duplicates of a character. They do have to be AU though.

We can app AUs?
Yes you can. Game imports count.

Can we app characters from Shin Megami Tensei?
You can't app STEVEN, and all other characters from the series should be reserved first just so I can get the chance to give a yea or nay about your particular character before you go through the trouble of writing an app.

What happens when we drop?
Your character has mysteriously disappeared. Probably, they were sent home, and not something more unfortunate.

What if we hiatus?
Your character is on autopilot.

Can we canon update?
Yes. The force that pulled your character in is nebulous, and occasionally lets go of a person for a time only to draw them back in. Canon update requests must be submitted officially and will take two days outside of the game.

What's our Activity Check like?
We'll go with a check-in post every other month until such time as we actually need an AC.

Demons! How do you get them?
You make them happy by talking to them and giving them what they want. They can want a few things: money, energy, items, or answers.

Money is just like it sounds. Macca is the currency for both shops in the towns that are still standing and among demons. This is the least satisfying option to the demon.

Energy is also what it sounds like. Demons can ask to drain some of your energy: agreeing damages you, but tends to make them more satisfied than if you'd just given money.

Items include anything from combat items to whatever junk you have on you. Demons can value different items differently, but offering them something useless or that they don't want might make them call off negotiations entirely.

Finally, demons might want to know your answers to questions of philosophy, to see whether you agree with them or not. It's hard to predict what the right answer is to any demon - even demons of the same kind have different opinions - but if you get it right, this is the most satisfying option for the demon.

When negotiations are done, demons will either offer to become your demon (most of the time), give an item, or simply leave combat.

If you don't give them what they want, or can't, they'll probably just attack you.

My character isn't human! Will demons like them more?
No. Even if your character is, technically, a demon, demons treat everybody trying to recruit them the same way.

Okay, but is that the only way?
Weeeell, you could fuse two demons into one stronger demon... But you'd have to find somebody who knows how to do that first. And there aren't any people like that in the starting town.

There might be one in the next town over, though, if you can make it there!

(This will be updated once the next town is reached ICly.)

What kinds of demons are available?
See this page. Note that your character can only recruit demons of a certain level - for example, a new character can only recruit demons up to level 10. Then once they'e past their first AC, they can get up to level 20, and so on.

If you don't see a demon on that page that you'd like, later we'll be opening up the ability to submit a demon to the mods' perusal, and if it's accepted that demon will become available to you and others to meet and negotiate with, or to fuse.

How many demons can I control?
The initial cap for a starting summoner is 6 demons. As with powers, this increases every AC that they pass.

What magic spells are in this world?
Magic spells should be explained on the demons page, but characters without many abilities to regain may gain magical spells themselves when others are regaining their own abilities. If a character gains a magic spell, it will be explained thoroughly to them at that time.

Locations

These are important locations thus far discovered in game.

Maharal
The town in which characters arrive in. Maharal is safe...ish. There are demon incursions now and again, but enough people know how to fight and the walls are sturdy enough that the casualties are few.

The walls are probably the only sturdy thing about this town. Few shops are open, and the ones that are sell necessities of life - food, weapons, and armor. Natives look suspiciously on the flow of strangers, associating their arrival with the arrival of demons that destroyed their previous way of life. They're probably right.

You could stay here, but there isn't much to do and those living here will expect you to support yourself eventually - and even farming requires leaving the city walls and braving the demons outside.

STEVEN resides here. He provides newcomers with a small gift of macca and a weapon to get them started, but he's not much help otherwise, possibly intentionally.

There's run-down Terminal here, but it hasn't been activated.
